Edmodo is a free online classroom, similar to an educational Facebook. It allows you to create multiple class groups for your students, as well as join special interest teacher groups, such as Secondary Languages, or 'communities', such as World Languages and Language Arts.
Edmodo allows you to create assignments, quizzes and surveys (polls), as well as store extra resources in folders for your students. You can easily send students or classes direct messages and parents can also easily gain access with the 'Parent Code', unique for each student.
